There is a difference between a house and a home. A house is a structure that provides shelter. It has the right number of bedrooms and baths, check off walk-in closets and two car garage. But home is much different. A home is the center of the family, the repository of our history, the foothold of our futures. Alice Young is in the business of helping families when their home has been lost or damaged – when a world has been turned inside out. Part warrior, part sleuth and compassionate advisor, Alice is simply the person you want when your friend or loved one is dealing with the unimaginable situation of loss.

In addition to her day job, Alice is a mother of three, loyal Posse member since the beginning, and a “take no prisoners” feedback giver. I’m delighted to introduce you to Alice! -Gene Hopper, Partner

  1. What is your business?

Brown O’Haver, we are a professional, public insurance adjusting company. We work only for insurance policy holders – we are your advocate!

  1. Why did you decide to do the work you do?

I grew up in the family business so I felt like it was bred in to me. I did try the corporate world for a few years after college, but I grew weary of having someone tell me what to do, where to do it, and then take credit for it.

  1. What is your ideal customer?

First, we only can help a person who has a need for our service. Therefore, an ideal customer would be someone who suffered a loss (such as tornado, fire, theft). From there we want to help anybody who wants our help. And the cherry on top is when they appreciate you. So if the requirements are, met the real ideal customer is an appreciative one.

  1. What is it that your customers or clients really want?

Communication

  1. Which two organizations outside your own do you know the most people at and why?

Contractors because we have to work with them when they are building/restoring homes that had a loss. Second would be employees of some form that work for the insurance company (usually insurance company adjusters).

  1. What is your MBTI?

ENFJ

  1. What are you known for?

Honesty, fighting fiercely for my clients, friends and family.

  1. What do you love about what you do?

I love helping people through what can be one of the worst times of their life. When you start, you can see all the devastation, but by the end, it is fun to the see the transformation. Also, I love that our company is able to give back and that we are able to do so many community outreach events. Finally, I love developing my employees and watching them grow.

  1. When you aren’t working, what are you likely to be doing?

Hanging out with my kiddos and husband. Lots of soccer and coaching. I also am a court appointed special advocate (CASA) and volunteer quite a bit.

  1. What are you reading now?

Just finished “The Perfect Girl” last night. It was very good.

  1. What is the coolest app you are using?

Probably Fitbit.

  1. Do you have a favorite “life hack?”

I wait 24 hours to say anything or have a conversation with someone if they have made me angry. It’s a pretty good cooling down period and allows me to be in control.

  1. What was your latest “Aha!” moment about?

Probably when my oldest daughter turned the same age as my stepson was when I first married my husband. I had this sudden realization that it all went so fast with him and every moment from there should be enjoyed and appreciated.

  1. When was the hardest time in your life?

6th grade, ’nuff said. Luckily I had an awesome mom who found a way for me to finish my schoolwork without having to go in.

  1. What do you get from your Posse or Tribe that you don’t get elsewhere?

Uninterrupted time.

  1. What were you doing the last time you laughed your head off?

When my daughter took a line from a book and made it her line. I was picking her up from school, and she tells this long convoluted tale and at the end says with sass, “true story”.

  1. What was the worst job you ever had?

I worked at a place called Spanky’s while in college. It was a restaurant and my first waitress job. I sucked at it and the customers were rude and the kitchen staff was despicable. That job didn’t last long, maybe a couple weeks. I had a grand exit one busy night and never looked back.

Coaching little kids soccer teams.

Myself.

Soccer, coaching, eating, watching some TV, doing some reading, life is good.

  1. If you were a crazy dictator on a small island nation, what dictator stuff would you do?

Require parents to not be actively ignorant to their children’s online/phone behavior. Require porn and other sexually explicit to have actual security so that children would not have to be in a constant bad predicament. Set no-technology days and force people to interact. Never let a parent give their kid a phone at dinner.

  1. When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with?

I have a lot of different kinds of people that need help. Some are those that have had a loss, some are those who are in or know someone in the DHS system, some are friends. When they want help, it’s typically advice or my view on a situation.

Hair product for curly hair.

She stood up for those that couldn’t stand.
